28 MTU 16V4000R43 engines for Latvian locomotives


There is an impressive locomotive modernization project going on in Latvia where total of 14 2M62U locomotives are all repowered and completely modernized according to the latest standards. The project consists of 14 twin-section locomotives each section powered by an MTU 16V4000R43 engine.

As the description says the MTU 16V4000R43 is a 16-cylinder diesel engine specially built for railway use. The engine's total displacement is 76,3 litres and power output is 2200 kW @ 1800 rpm.

Baltic Marine Group is participating the modernization process together with CZ Loco (CZ) and a subsidiary of Latvian Railways LDZ RSS. The first locomotive is expected to be completed and certified by May 2016.
