Kihnu Virve takes her first trip to mainland Estonia!

There is finally a new ferry operating in between Kihnu island and Estonian mainland, named Kihnu Virve! She is the 2nd of series of 3 vessels ordered by Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications from Baltic Workboats. Her sister ship Ormsö was delivered in May and entered service in early June.

Like Ormsö the Kihnu Virve is also a 45-metre double ended car and passenger ferry that can carry total of 32 cars and 200 passengers. She is built according to RMRS KM*Arc4 (1) R3 AUT3 rules which means there should no longer be problems with ferry being stuck in ice.

Kihnu Virve is also powered by 2 x MTU 8V4000 M63 engines, each 1000 kW @ 1800 rpm, driving a pair of Rolls-Royce US 155 azimuth thrusters. We wish Kihnu Virve and her crew safe seas!
